Kerala Government a part of creating an Inclusive economy has started rolling out Techno-Lodges or Rural IT Parks. This scheme of Techno-Lodge envisages developing a small building which has a capacity of seating about 25 employees for IT, ITeS and BPO operations.

The main objective of this scheme is to encourage ITeS and BPO companies to operate from low cost rural centers and thereby to create employment in rural areas. The first district to be selected for the project was Kollam. Kadakal and Perinad , two places in kollam have been selected to start the Techno-Lodge Scheme. The Techo-Lodges supplement the local economy by creating jobs for the unemployed youths. The Techno-Lodge scheme has been set up as envisioned by State IT Policy 2007. The scheme offers immense scope for firms planning to set low end outsourcing processes.

New locations for establishing techno lodges have been identified with the help of government/local bodies of small towns and rural panchayats having good accessible roads, buildings, electricity, water and other basic infrastructure the IT sector. The techno lodges are expected to provide competent IT/ITES infrastructure in rural areas, and lead to rural employment opportunities.

The Techno- lodge concept is being overseen by the Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure (KSITIL), a state government-promoted company. KSITIL undertakes the initial investment in the techno lodges,
