For a state like Kerala where the availability of land is at a premium and density of population the highest, IT industry is eminently suitable. The industry does not pollute nor is it power intensive. The land to employee ratio is one of the lowest. Besides, the industry offers huge employment opportunities with attractive remuneration to the educated youth of the state.
Unfortunately Kerala does not figure prominently in the IT map of the country. A comparison with our neighboring states on software exports will illustrate this. It is obvious that a lot needs to be done.
GTECH is one forum that should work towards the accelerated growth of the IT industry in the state. With a strength of over 100 companies representing 80% of total IT headcount in Kerala, we are well placed to do so. This we shall by supporting member companies, working closely with Government agencies, promoting IT entrepreneurship and mobilizing public support for the industry.
The newly constituted executive Committee will consolidate on the good work done by our predecessors. We will continue to take definitivesteps in our march towards our stated objective. For this we need to first convince all stakeholders that supporting IT is supporting people and then act decisively towards making Kerala one of the preferred destinations for IT investments in India. Towards this, I seek the support of not only the GTECH members, but also the key influencers of our society.
